BOSTON (April 19)  ̶  Tufts Medical Center has appointed Sean Sullivan, a human resources leader with 25 years of experience working with companies on cutting-edge programs in recruitment, engagement, benefits and HR systems, to be its Vice President of Human Resources. Sullivan was selected after a nationwide search.

Most recently, Sullivan was Vice President, Human Resources on the corporate staff for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a $4 billion publicly-traded technology company with 15,000 employees worldwide. Sullivan graduated cum laude from Syracuse University and earned his Masters’ in Public Administration from Syracuse, as well.

“What appealed to me about working for Tufts Medical Center was the opportunity to support caregivers and researchers who are saving lives and improving health care for all of us. I don’t think you get a greater clarity of mission than what we have here,” said Sullivan. “I’m accustomed to working to recruit and retain employees for a complex environment where excellence is mandatory, and this is certainly the case at a world-class academic medical center.”

“Sean has demonstrated a passion for engaging employees, listening to their voices and building teams. He also impressed our search committee with his warmth, extensive knowledge of creating HR systems and proven ability to rapidly recruit highly qualified individuals for start-up businesses through his work at SAIC,” said Michael Wagner, MD, President and CEO of Tufts Medical Center.

The search committee to select Sullivan was led by Terry Hudson-Jinks, RN, MSN, Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services. Sullivan succeeds Patricia Hayward, JD, who led Human Resources at Tufts Medical Center while concurrently serving as head of Risk Management; Hayward continues her work as Vice President of Risk Management at Tufts Medical Center.
