(Boston) – Tufts Medical Center nurses voted today to ratify a three year, nine month contract between Tufts MC and the Massachusetts Nurses Association. The contract, tentatively agreed to on December 18, 2017, will run through September 30, 2021.
“This contract is good for our nurses and good for the Medical Center. We are thrilled that our nurses have voted in favor of ratification,” said Michael Wagner, MD, President and CEO of Tufts Medical Center. “All of us are eager to close this challenging chapter and refocus 100 percent of our energy on working as one aligned team and continuing to deliver the outstanding patient care for which we are known.”
The ratified contract achieves the Medical Center’s initial goals: Wage enhancements that will allow for the recruitment and retention of top talented nurses and retirement plan transitions for nurses currently in the defined benefit pension plan to a 403(b) retirement savings plan. The contract will allow the community to heal and focus on the delivery of excellence in patient care.
“You won’t find more skilled and compassionate nurses anywhere than those at Tufts Medical Center,” said Terry Hudson-Jinks, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at Tufts Medical Center and head of the Medical Center bargaining committee during contract negotiations. “We are very glad to be starting off the New Year fresh with an agreement that will help us work as one team - focusing our efforts on the delivery of excellence in patient care while retaining and recruiting the very best nursing professionals in the region.”
