Ann Tolkoff's story: I'm not only a member of the Patient + Family Advisory Council. I'm a patient.

Description of Your Relationship with Tufts Medical Center and/or Floating Hospital for Children:

I am a lifelong member of the Tufts' community. My husband owes his life to early diagnosis and surgery for cancer. My parents, children and and I have all been patients, from heart disease to emergency gall bladder to obesity clinic, our family counts on Tufts for the gold standard of professional care and cutting edge research, simply the best.

What advice would you offer patients and/or their families who are receiving care at Tufts Medical Center (or Floating Hospital for Children) to make their stay easier/most comfortable?

Get to know your nurse practitioner. This is the person who will spend the time keeping you in the loop about your care.

What helped you most during your stay/your family member’s stay at Tufts Medical Center (or Floating Hospital for Children)?

Liz Barnhart, R.N. is the best! Stuck for days by a bedside? Get some exercise. Castle Island is a 2 mile drive, free parking. Walk the beach. The Public Gardens are a short jog and the victory gardens of the South End are a ten minute walk. Chinatown, though bordered by new condos, still has some great food. Nine Tyler for traditional Cantonese. Pho Pasteur for good soup. You are in the middle of the city. There is that ' too busy ' feel sometimes, but Tufts will help you navigate.
