After graduating from college, I lived two years in Chad, Africa working in public health with the Peace Coprs. I earned my MPH from Johns Hopkins and then I studied medicine at Yale University. Initially, I trained in Surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle before transitioning to anesthesia. I did my anesthesia residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard. I then did a year of fellowship training at Duke University in cardiothoracic anesthesia. I worked in Washington DC for a little over a year before moving back to Boston where I am now at Tufts Medical Center. During my medical training, I have worked overseas as often as possible and have cumulatively spent over three years overseas involved in volunteer medical work (Cambodia, Chad, Ethiopia, Gabon, Nepal, Peru, Afghanistan, Sudan)

Sudan: Emergency, summer 2010: Spent three months working as a cardiac anesthesiologist at the Salam Center in Soba, Sudan. Also was actively involved in teaching Italian and Sudanese anesthesia residents.
Afghanistan: Emergency, spring 2006: Spent three months working as a trauma surgeon for Emergency, a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Kabul and Panjsir, Afghanistan. Patients involved both children and adults. Cases included abdominal blunt and penetrating trauma with some peripheral vascular trauma. Recorded commentary on civilian health care needs for National Public Radio in the United States.
Chad: Peace Corps Public Health Advisor, 1995-1997: Collaborated with Médecins Sans Frontières and Ministry of Health in management of two cholera epidemics and one meningitis epidemic. Responded to extrajudicial killings and other systemic abuses of human rights by documenting executions for U.S. embassy and by addressing neglected health needs in local prison population.
Cambodia: America Red Cross Volunteer, summer 1992: Helped engineer rain water catchment system addressing hospital’s water shortage. Acted as translator for American physicians and for United Nations troops gaining exposure to issues of land mine clearance. Worked as first assistant in an operating room without electricity and water.
