We understand there is still anxiety about going anywhere, including to the doctor or a hospital while COVID-19 remains in the community. That’s why we’ve taken a number of steps to ensure you are Safe with Us:

• All patients and employees coming into the Medical Center will be provided with a mask to wear while they are here 
• All patients will be asked about possible COVID symptoms before coming in and again upon arrival
• Visitors and guests will continue to be limited
• Our clinical spaces have been upgraded with plexiglass barriers at check-in, and waiting areas have been set up to ensure proper distancing between chairs
• Our environmental services staff is using advanced technology and the highest grade cleaners to disinfect areas frequently 
• Floor decals will be placed six feet apart throughout the Medical Center to remind everyone of social distancing

Also, do not delay seeking help should you have chest pain, difficulty speaking, numbness in the arms or legs or severe abdominal pain. Tufts Medical Center updated Visitor Policy 

as of March 15, 2022

• Tufts Medical Center is updating its visitor policy based upon new guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and in conjunction with decreasing COVID numbers and evidence of decreasing infections in the community.

• Visitors are verbally screened upon entry for symptoms of illness.
• Visitors will be asked to leave if they exhibit symptoms of illness.
• All visitors should be deferred until the visitor is well.
• Visitors are expected to adhere to all PPE practices:
• Mask at all times, even when in the patient room or gathering in a waiting room
• Hand Hygiene often
• Visitors will be asked to leave if they do not wear the appropriate PPE
• There may be times when the nurse or other member of the health care team will limit visitation due to safety concerns.

Adult

Adult Inpatient

• General visiting hours are between 11 am and 8 pm daily.
• There are no restrictions to the number of visitors per day.
• Visits should be short with full PPE compliance.
• Other hours can be considered at the discretion of the health care team.
• End of Life and other extenuating circumstances are at the discretion of the care team

• Patients are allowed at least 1 individual or companion to accompany the patient to an in-person appointment

• One support person per patient per visit only. No children under 18.
• Bedside visitors limited to 1 at a time (Example: Infusion Center).

Mothers and Babies

Ambulatory Areas (Prenatal clinic and ultrasound unit)

• Visitors are discouraged at this time due to our high risk population. If you feel you need support, you may bring one adult visitor for your appointment. No children under 18 are allowed. 

Labor and Delivery (LDR)

Every patient admitted to Tufts Medical Center for delivery of a baby is allowed:

• 2 adult (over 18) support persons and a doula who will be given wristbands and allowed 24/7 access to the patient while on LDR. These designated support people are not considered visitors.
• No visitors. Visitors are not allowed on LDR.

Maternal Special Care Unit (MSCU) and Mother Infant Unit (MIU)
Every patient admitted to Tufts Medical Center’s Maternal Special Care Unit may have:

• 2 adult support persons per day per patient who will be given a wristband and allowed 24/7 access to the patient. 
• 2 visitors per patient at a time.
• Siblings are welcome. Non-sibling children may not visit at this time. 
• Visiting hours on the Mother Infant Unit are 2 pm-8 pm. 

NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU)

• Parents/ banded Labor Support people are not considered visitors.
• Maximum of 2 at the baby’s bedside.

Pediatric Inpatient Floating 7, PBMT and Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU)

• Two parents/guardians/designated caregivers for children are not considered visitors and have 24/7 access.
• Any visitor during normal visiting hours must have parental approval.
  
  

Pediatric Provider Visits

• Two parents/guardians/support persons may accompany a pediatric patient to an in-person provider visit.

Emergency Department

• Pediatric ED: two parents/guardians may accompany a pediatric patient to the Emergency Department.
• Adults: One visitor allowed per patient at the discretion of the care team.
