Congratulations to Dr. Kathleen Finn for being appointed the Louisa C. Endicott Professor of Medicine by the Tufts University Board of Trustees! Dr. Finn joined the Department of Medicine at Tufts Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine this past June as Vice Chair of Education, Program Director for the Medicine Residency Program, and Associate Professor.

Congratulations to Dr. Suriya Jeyapalan for receiving the 2022 Louis Lasagna, MD Outstanding Institutional Review Board (IRB) Member Award!

Congratulations to Dr. Sarwat Salim, professor of ophthalmology, Director of Glaucoma Service, and Vice Chair of Clinical and Academic Affairs, on her election to lead the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (MSEPS)!

Congratulations to Dr. Wendy Mccallum on the receipt of a K23 to support her project entitled, Relation between acute changes in kidney function with clinical outcomes among patients with heart failure!

Angie Rodday, Susan Parsons, and Jenica Upshaw for their simultaneous oral presentation at the American Society of Hematology meeting and publication in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, The Advanced-Stage Hodgkin Lymphoma International Prognostic Index: Development and Validation of a Clinical Prediction Model From the HoLISTIC Consortium

Thanks to Dr. Deb Blazey-Martin who has served as Division Chief of General Internal Medicine for the past 7 years. She will be leaving Tufts for a new position at UMass Medical Center. Dr. Blazey-Martin was also one of the founding members of WiMS and we are immensely grateful for her support and guidance over the years.

Congratulations to Dr. Sucharita Kher, Vice Chair for Clinical Operations and Quality, who will be serving as interim Division Chief of General Internal Medicine, and Dr. Kim Schelling who will be serving as interim Associate Division Chief of General Internal Medicine.

Congratulations to new chairs of WiMS Subcommittees: Dr. Amanda French is now chair of the Leadership & Benefits Subcommittee, and Dr. Mithila Vullaganti is now chair of the Wellness & Work-Life Balance Subcommittee!

Congratulations to Dr. Mary Wallingford and her lab member, Vineetha Mathew (MS3 at TUSM). Dr. Wallingford attended the International Vascular Biology Meeting (IVBM) to present her lab's placenta vascular biology research studies, while Ms. Mathew received a Young Scholar travel award to attend the International Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HTT) Scientific Conference where she presented the lab’s work on HTT in pregnancy. This work was partially supported by a WiMS Seed mentorship award.

Congratulations to three Tufts MC doctors who were recognized for cardiac research. Dr. Kay Everett took first in the Jay Cohn New Investigator Competition at the Annual Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) Conference in Washington, DC. Dr. Lija Swain received the Young Investigator Award for her study of cardiac metabolism and Dr. Xiaoying Qiao earned the Travel Award for the Acute Cardiac Unloading and Recovery (A-CURE) Meeting to be held in association with the forthcoming American Heart Association Scientific Sessions.

Congratulations to the new WiMS Committee Members and Chair-Elect , Aarti Grover, MD, Medical Director of the Center for Sleep Medicine, Program Director for the Sleep Medicine Fellowship and an Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. An active member of the Tufts WiMS Committee since 2019, Aarti has served as the Chair of the WiMS Wellness and Work-Life Balance Subcommittee. We are also pleased to announce that as of October 1st, the WiMS Chair will be Angie Mae Rodday, PhD, Associate Director of the Clinical and Translational Sciences Graduate Program, a Biostatistician within the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design Center, and a faculty member within the Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies. Finally, we are pleased to introduce a new WiMS Committee Member: Imrana Qawi, MD; Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care.

Congratulations to Tara Lavelle, PhD for receiving the ISPOR Award for Excellence in Health Economics and Outcomes Research Application. This award recognizes honorees for their outstanding practical application of HEOR in healthcare decision making. The publication of her work is “Quantifying the Burden of Hyperphagia in Prader-Willi Syndrome Using Quality-Adjusted Life-Years;” [Clin Ther. 2021;43(7):1164-1178]

Congratulations to Dr. Amanda Vest, for nbeing selected by students as an Outstanding Tufts University School of Medicine Lecturer, 2021-2022. Just 20 faculty members - out of nearly 250 lecturers - met the criteria established to receive this honor.

Congratulations to Dr. Alysse Wurcel. Her project Engaging Stakeholders in New England to Improve Antibiotic Stewardship Practices in Jails and Prisons was selected to receive TUSM Springboard Funds.

Congratulations to Chloe Bird, PhD, FAAAS, FAAHB, for being appointed the Sara Murray Jordan Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Center of Health Equity Research at Tufts Medical Center.

Congratulations to Lesley A. Inker, MD MS for receiving the Milton O. Zucker, MD, FACS, and Natalie V. Zucker Award. This honor is awarded annually to a woman scientist on the Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) faculty for outstanding career achievements in research and is made possible by a generous donation from the Zucker family.

Congratulations to Caroline M. Hus, MD MS, newly minted faculty member in the Division of Nephrology and former research fellow, for receiving a Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute KL2 career development award. Her project "Predictors of Peritoneal Dialysis Technique Survival in the setting of PD-associated peritonitis" will use both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess the reasons why people switch from PD to HD.
