Full Circle

November 22, 2019

For Andrew Colameta, working on the labor and delivery renovation was like coming home. He was born in the same space decades before.

The recent renovation of the labor and delivery suites at MelroseWakefield Hospital has been a source of excitement for many people.

The labor and delivery unit at MelroseWakefield Hospital has seen generations of babies born into the world, and, for one person involved in the renovation project, that connection has come full circle.

Andrew Colameta, president of Sterling Construction, the firm serving as construction manager for the project, was born in one of the very same suites that he renovated.

“I was born in one of these rooms back in 1978,” states Andy. “It’s not every day you have a chance to work on a project with such a personal connection. Renovating the space is very cool on both a personal and business basis.”

Andy has worked in the construction industry for over 22 years and started Sterling Construction three years ago. Sterling is a boutique construction management company with multiple projects serving the healthcare and life sciences industries.

The renovations include reconfiguring the birthing room space to provide more of a luxury hotel-like experience for patients. Enhancements include the latest in comfort and design amenities, such as luxury showers, modern furnishings and lighting, charging stations for personal electronics and abundant personal storage space.

“There hasn’t been a major renovation for many years. It’s exciting to be part of the process of making these rooms state-of-the-art and giving the best birthing experience for families,” said Colameta.
