TeamWalk on Your Terms Raises $410,000 for Cancer Patients Across the Merrimack Valley

October 16, 2021

TeamWalk for CancerCare teams walked on their terms again this year, but that didn’t stop them from collectively raising more than $410,000 for cancer patients across the Merrimack Valley, topping last year’s total.

The pandemic forced the walk to go virtual again for the second straight year, but TeamWalk organizers are planning to bring back the annual spring fundraising event to Tsongas Arena on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

“After what we’ve been through the past two years, it’s no surprise that our supporters once again overcame the challenges and stepped up for neighbors in need,” said Jody White, President and CEO of Lowell General Hospital. “Every dollar raised will help cancer patients in this community, and the need has never been greater.”

Since 2000, TeamWalk has raised more than $14 million and touched the lives of more than 36,000 cancer patients and their families. Every dollar raised goes to help patients at the Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital and throughout the Merrimack Valley with the things insurance doesn’t cover – an overdue bill, a prescription co-pay, a wig, transportation to and from treatment or integrative therapies to aid recovery.

This year’s TeamWalk Chairman was once again Carrie Meikle of Chelmsford, a breast cancer survivor who received care at Lowell General Hospital’s Cancer Center.

“Cancer presents challenges patients and their families can’t anticipate,” Meikle said. “Thank you to everyone who did their part to support this incredibly important cause. Every dollar helps these patients in need focus on getting back to the activities and people they love.”
