Overview

This study will examine the colonic microbes and genes in patients with active ulcerative colitis compared to patients with ulcerative colitis in remission. 

Study Details

Inclusion Criteria

1) History of ulcerative colitis

2) Age between 18-75

3) Planned for routine colonoscopy over next 6 months  

Exclusion Criteria

1) Pregnancy

2) Use of antibiotics in 3 months prior to study date

3) History of bowel surgery

Study Requirements

The patient will be consented during their clinic visit. During their routine subsequent colonoscopy, 8 small colon biopsies will be performed in the right colon and the left colon each, in addition to their usual biopsies. No further lab studies or clinic visits are required as part of this study.
