The Hematology/Oncology Division at Tufts Medical Center (Tufts MC) in Boston was established by Dr. William Dameshek, an eminent hematologist and the first president of the American Society of Hematology. Since then, our division has expanded significantly and oversees over 25,000 outpatient visits and treatments annually at the advanced Tufts Medical Center Cancer Center.
We are fortunate to have numerous national and international medical oncology and hematology experts specializing in various cancers, including bone marrow and stem transplant + cellular therapies, benign blood disorders and transfusion medicine. Furthermore, we have several multidisciplinary clinics that involve various cancer specialists (such as oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists, and radiologists) who work together to provide the best possible care for every patient. Moreover, we emphasize excellent humanistic care.
We also provide patients with a wide range of supportive care resources and highly specialized facilities and programs. Our bone marrow and stem transplant + cellular therapies program was the first program in Boston to be nationally accredited as a transplant and donor collection center. Additionally, the Reid R. Sacco Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program at Tufts MC is the first program in Boston to provide personalized, multidisciplinary care tailored to the patient's age and disease, with a focus on survivorship-based care, including addressing complications or late effects such as fertility issues, bone issues or heart problems related to cancer treatments.
