In the coming weeks and months, in accordance with state and federal guidelines, we will gradually will be increasing the number of in-person visits and procedures as the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations decline. We understand there is still anxiety about going anywhere, including to the doctor or a hospital while COVID-19 remains in the community. That’s why we’ve taken a number of steps to ensure you are Safe with Us:
- All patients and employees coming into the Medical Center will be provided with a mask to wear while they are here
- All patients will be asked about possible COVID symptoms before coming in and again upon arrival
- Visitors and guests will continue to be limited
- Our clinical spaces have been upgraded with plexiglass barriers at check-in, and waiting areas have been set up to ensure proper distancing between chairs
- Our environmental services staff is using advanced technology and the highest grade cleaners to disinfect areas frequently
- Floor decals will be placed six feet apart throughout the Medical Center to remind everyone of social distancing
It’s important that you continue to get the medical care needed to be well. Please call your physician’s office with any questions. Also, do not delay seeking help should you have chest pain, difficulty speaking, numbness in the arms or legs or severe abdominal pain. If you believe you are having a true medical emergency, call 911.

Updated visitor policy

Due to the new travel order, visitors must attest that they have not traveled outside of Massachusetts to a high-risk state over the past 14 days. If they did travel to a high-risk state, they must attest that they have quarantined for 14 days and/or have received a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of their return to MA or during their 14 day quarantine. A negative COVID-19 test must be provided at visitation check-in if they have not quarantined for 14 days. Each visitor is required to present this documentation upon each visitation to the Medical Center.

We ask that only patients with pre-scheduled appointments visit their doctor's office.
- All visitors are required to wear a mask, practice hand hygiene, and must be screened for symptoms of possible COVID-19 Infection. All visitors will be provided one surgical or procedural mask immediately upon arrival and are required to use hand sanitizer and wear the mask continually until they leave the building.
- Visitors who are sick or have any possible symptom (fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, chills, muscle aches, or new onset of loss of taste and smell) may not visit under any circumstances. Visitors will be screened prior to entering the organization and when possible prior to the visit via phone.
- The visit should be scheduled in advance when possible.
- Symptomatic visitors will not be allowed to visit.
- Every visitor should practice physical distancing while at the Medical Center.
- Visitors should follow posted precautions and will be provided instructions on proper donning/doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE). If the visitor declines to don PPE, they must still wear a mask and perform hand hygiene when entering and exiting the patient's room.
- Visitors are encouraged to stay in the patients’ room for the duration of the visit
- Visitors must check in at the entrance and the nursing unit station before entering the patient room.
- For adult inpatients, one visitor/support person per day during designated visiting hours: 10am-12pm OR 5pm-7pm. All visitors/support persons must be 18 years of age or older. The visitor will be instructed to remain in the room with the patient for the duration of the visit.
- We ask that only patients with pre-scheduled appointments visit their doctor's office
- One visitor /companion may accompany elderly or disabled patients to an in-person provider visit.
- For pediatric patients, two parents/guardians/designated caregiver for patients under the age of 18 are allowed to visit. The caregiver must stay in the patient's room for the duration of the visit, wear a mask, practice hand hygiene and must be screened. The visitation hours are open 24/7.
- One parent/guardian may accompany a pediatric patient to an in-person provider visit.
- Patients admitted to Tufts Medical Center for delivery of a baby are allowed one asymptomatic support person. The support person is allowed to remain with the patient during the delivery and postpartum stay. The support person will be instructed to remain in the room with the patient for the duration of the visit, wear a mask, and must be screened. The visitation hours are open 24/7.
- For newborn PUIs in the NICU, parents may designate one healthy caregiver who has not been exposed to the COVID-positive mother in past 14 days. The caregiver should not visit the COVID-positive mother.
There are five entrances open to collect a required mask when visiting or checking in for an appointment.
