Staphylococcus aureus

Staph is short for Staphylococcus, a type of bacteria. There are over 30 types, but Staphylococcus aureus causes most staph infections (pronounced "staff infections"), including skin infections, pneumonia, food poisoning, toxic shock syndrome, and blood poisoning.
