Developing a non-invasive optical biopsy for detection of cervical pre-cancers

Principal Investigator: Hong-Thao Thieu, MD
Co-Investigators: Irene Georgakoudi, PhD and Elizabeth Genega, MD

This study is a collaboration between Tufts Medical Center Departments of OBGYN and Pathology and Tufts University Department of Biomedical Engineering.

In this study we use non-linear microscopy to compare and contrast fluorescence signals of cervical tissue from normal (hysterectomy) and dysplastic (colposcopy and LEEP) samples.
We hope that this research will lead to future technologies using optical probes for detecting early cervical cancers without the need for a biopsy.

This study will help ensure that these new methods are valid before they are used in the clinic.
