Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine

Research

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children in Boston embraces a culture of research. Representation of our academic productivity at major scientific national and international anesthesiology society meetings has steadily evolved and incudes ASA, SCA, SOAP and IARS venues.

With advent of ACGME required QA/QI projects, nearly every trainee is engaged in some form of data collection and analysis, and ultimately research.

Focal areas of our vibrant research enterprise include cardiovascular echo and outcomes, respiratory monitoring, evidence based medicine (Cochrane collaboration), simulation and survey studies, retrospective analyses,  pediatric and basic science research. The latter revolves currently around non-infectious fever in the parturient and neuro-inflammatory changes in the neonatal rat brain. This research has led to major external funding from the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology in 2015.

Examples of ongoing research activity are listed below as of the Spring 2015.
