Comfort & Support at Every Stage of Serious Illness
Being diagnosed with a serious illness like cancer, Alzheimer's disease, AIDS or chronic kidney disease can affect every aspect of your — and your family's — life. Managing long-term medical care often adds extra stress at a time when you need to focus on getting well. In addition, you may have symptoms, such as pain or shortness of breath, that make it difficult for you to go about your daily activities.
Palliative Care Services at Tufts Medical Center provides support services to help patients and families maintain quality of life at every stage of a serious illness. Many people think our program offers only end-of-life care. In fact, palliative care is most successful when implemented early in your treatment program.
Our multidisciplinary team can offer:
- Help managing pain and side effects such as fatigue
- Counseling and other emotional-support services
- Family/caregiver support
- Assistance with difficult treatment decisions
