The Patient Navigation Program at the Tufts Medical Center Cancer Center, established in 2014, is dedicated to providing our patients with the support needed to overcome cultural, language and/or socio-economic barriers to quality cancer care. Our navigators will work closely with you and your health care team to understand and address your concerns, so you receive the care you need.
Due to the personalized nature of our program, navigation services are currently offered to patients who are of Chinese origin and on active treatment for cancer.
Patient Navigator Support
Patient navigators meet with you and your family to discuss any challenges you may be facing. Patient navigators are available to:
- Communicate and advocate your needs and concerns to your oncology team
- Attend appointments with you, if you wish, to facilitate discussions
- Help you identify and address logistical concerns (e.g. transportation, insurance)
- Link you to resources within the medical center and in the community
Our Patient Navigation Team
Our trained Patient Navigators are fluent in multiple languages, including English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Toishanese. Each navigator is certified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Patient Navigation training program. Supervision is provided by Dr. Susan Parsons, an oncologist and Director of the Patient Navigation Program.
