The Insulin Pump Program at Tufts Medical Center is designed to provide patients with diabetes taking insulin an alternative to taking multiple daily injections.
An insulin pump is a device which delivers insulin continuously under the skin based on your own needs. At meals, the pump can be programmed to deliver a dose based on the content and portion size of the foods eaten as well as your blood sugar. A Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) may be used together with some insulin pumps to help monitor the daily patterns of blood sugar which may help to adjust the pump settings.
The team of doctors and nurses in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism will work with you to determine if using an insulin pump is an appropriate decision to assist in your diabetes management. If you choose to switch to an insulin pump, a training session will be arranged so that you can learn how to use your pump. In the event that you have any issues with your insulin pump, you will have 24 hour access to support.
