The Dr. Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman Visiting Professorship in Diabetes at Tufts Medical Center is given annually in honor of Dr. Friedman and his wife, Dorothy, for their long-time, dedicated service to diabetes.
The Friedman Visiting Professor is chosen annually by an advisory board after careful consideration of candidates who have made some of the most outstanding contributions to the field of diabetes mellitus. The Visiting Professorship is a day of study and learning, not only for the Division of Endocrinology but also faculty and trainees at Tufts Medical Center.
The format of the Professorship consists of 3 parts:
- A presentation focused on research
- Clinical case presentations by the endocrinology Fellows on some of their most challenging patients with diabetes mellitus followed by discussion
- The Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman New York Foundation for Medical Research Lecture in Diabetes, which is given at noon in the main lecture hall of Tufts Medical Center
