In the 1970s, Tufts Liver Clinic was set up and led by Dr. Marshall Kaplan, a world class clinical scientist and hepatologist who made seminal discoveries in the field of hepatology at the Tufts Medical Center, in particular autoimmune liver diseases. Over the next few decades, Tufts Medical Center has developed into a comprehensive Liver Disease Program for the management of patients with simple and complex liver disease.
Dr. Raza Malik is an internationally recognized expert in liver disease and was recruited from Harvard Medical School and appointed Director of Hepatology to establish the new Liver Center at Tufts Medical Center. In commenting on his appointment, Dr. Malik stated, “It is a privilege for me to follow in the eminent footsteps of Dr. Marshall Kaplan to establish a Liver Center at Tufts Medical Center through the support of Tufts Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center Physicians Organization and Tufts University School of Medicine. Tufts is a world class academic medical center in the heart of downtown Boston with a diverse population of patients, providers and students, making it a melting pot for academic excellence.”
