Genetics + Metabolism

At the Genetics Division at Tufts Medical Center in downtown Boston,  we offer patients of all ages access to the latest information and developments in genetic medicine. From testing and diagnosis to leading-edge therapies, our expert doctors and genetic counselors can help you manage a hereditary condition and optimize your health.

Genetic testing + counseling

Genetic testing can provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions about your health or your child's health. All of our patients have access to an experienced, compassionate genetic counselor. Your counselor can help you decide if genetic testing is right for you and also explain your test results and treatment options in collaboration with the geneticist.

Our genetic testing services include:

  • Diagnostic testing
  • Predictive testing to determine if you're at risk for a specific genetic condition
  • Carrier testing to find out if you or your partner are carriers for particular genetic conditions
  • Prenatal testing

The right diagnosis for you

Genetic disorders often have a wide variety of symptoms, and they can be difficult to diagnose. Some of our patients and their families have been struggling for years to find the cause of their symptoms.

We understand how stressful it can be to have unanswered questions about you or your child's health. That's why we're focused on providing you with a precise, personalized diagnosis that lets you begin managing you or your child's condition effectively.

We also work closely with the Maternal Fetal Medicine and Newborn Medicine divisions to diagnose hereditary diseases in fetuses and infants. In collaboration with other specialists at Tufts MC, we help guide care during pregnancy and offer treatment as early as possible.

The latest in individualized treatment for genetic disorders

Genetic conditions can affect many different organs. So your care team at Tufts MC may include a number of specialists, each of whom treats a specific part of your body (e.g. brain, bones or heart).

Furthermore, the doctors and genetic counselors in the Genetics Division are focused on the big picture. All members of your care team work together to ensure the treatment plan is right for you or your child's condition, health history and lifestyle.
