A comprehensive geriatric assessment is a central component of providing the necessary and appropriate care for older adults with complex and multiple health conditions.
Geriatric assessment goes beyond the standard adult comprehensive history and physical exam, by providing evaluations of the factors that specifically affect older adults.
It is a multifaceted approach to the care of older adults with the goal of promoting wellness and independent physical, cognitive, psychological and social function.
How we assess each patient depends on the goals of care, the site of care, and the patient's level of frailty.
