In 2011, Tufts Medical Center is hosted a gathering to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Kidney Transplant Program. The program has a long history of great outcomes in kidney transplantation and is a leader in immunosuppression research. Tufts Medical Center’s first kidney transplant was performed in 1971; in the nearly 40 years since then, more than 1,000 procedures have been performed here.
Today, Tufts Medical Center doctors transplant about 40 kidneys each year, making it a mid-sized program by national standards. Most recently US News and World Report’s “Best Hospitals” issue recognized Tufts Medical Center’s Kidney Disease Program.
