Chronic kidney disease (CKD) can progress slowly with no symptoms and may cause complications in many systems in the body. That's why it's crucial to carefully manage your kidney health.
The experts of the Kidney Blood Pressure Center at Tufts Medical Center offer a full suite of services to slow the progression of CKD. Our physicians pay close attention to details like the amount of protein in your urine, your daily medications and your diet. This information helps us adapt your care plan to fit your individual needs.
Founded in 1950, our program was the first clinic in Boston devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease and hypertension. Today, our services include:
Managing your blood pressure is an important part of keeping your whole body healthy. High blood pressure, or hypertension, puts stress on your blood vessels, including the ones in your heart, brain and kidneys. This can lead to heart disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease (CKD), kidney damage and even kidney failure.
Our physicians are experts at diagnosing the cause of hypertension. Knowing why you have high blood pressure helps us personalize your care plan from the beginning so that you avoid serious complications and stay healthy.
Because CKD affects so many of your body's systems, we work closely with your entire health care team. Within Tufts MC, we have close ties with the Division of Transplant Surgery, Department of Urology, Division of Cardiology, outpatient dialysis unit and Frances Stern Nutrition Center.
Our multidisciplinary care teams work together to:
Lesley Inker, MD became Director of the Kidney and Blood Pressure Center in 2012. As an expert in kidney evaluation, she has pioneered new methods for estimating kidney function more accurately.
Dr. Inker works with organizations like the National Kidney Foundation and the National Kidney Disease Education Program (sponsored by the National Institutes of Health) to improve the understanding, detection and management of kidney disease.
Our team includes specialists from across the Nephrology Division, and we provide expert care for all aspects of renal health.
