A closer look at the relationship between brain and behavior
Clinical neuropsychology can illuminate the connections between brain and behavior in individuals across the lifespan. The highly skilled team of clinicians in the Tufts Medical Center Neuropsychology Program use neuropsychological, psychological, cognitive and behavioral principles, technologies and tests. Our goal is to evaluate patients’ strengths and weaknesses, diagnose neurobehavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders and plan and implement intervention strategies.
Our Boston neuropsychology experts evaluate such concerns as autism, attention and learning disorders, psychiatric disorders, head injury, sports concussions, brain tumors, medical illness, genetic and metabolic disorders and the effects of infectious disease. Tracking medical and neurodegenerative disorders over time can facilitate strong interdisciplinary understanding of the course of an illness. Some treatments themselves can have cognitive effects that can be followed. We work together with referring physicians in pediatrics, neurology, psychiatry, cardiology, nephrology, metabolism and genetics, and general medicine to shed light on the effects of these and other influences on brain function and treatment.

The clinicians in the Neuropsychology Program bring a broad spectrum of specialized skills to the evaluation of brain–behavior relationships in adults and children. Led by Hope Schreiber, PsyD, ABPP/CN, a board-certified neuropsychologist with nearly 30 years of experience, our team is proficient in assessing conditions throughout the lifespan. Neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism, learning and attention disorders, brain injury, the effects of medical illness, genetic and infectious disease and dementia, are only some of the issues we address at Tufts Medical Center.
A neuropsychological evaluation consists of history-gathering sessions and interviews, as well as pencil or computerized tests in order to understand attention, memory and learning functions. In this way, we can work with your physician and other caregivers or schools to form treatment recommendations to enhance daily life and functioning.
