Life as a Resident

Residency is hard, but the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Tufts Medical Center is committed to your well-being and professional development.

Wellness is built into our didactic schedule monthly, and we participate in ACOG Wellness Week every winter. We also build in a 24 hour long retreat yearly so that all residents can participate. Wellness and retreat activities have included: Yoga (including aerial yoga), spinning, apple picking, Escape the Room, and Boga Board.

Residents are encouraged to present research at any conference as long as you have proper coverage. Our residents have presented at ACOG, APGO/CREOG, APHA, ASRM, SGO, SMFM to name a few. Residents are also involved with ACOG District 1 events and advocacy surrounding Women's Health.

Rotations in years 1 and 4 are at Tufts Medical Center. Interns are paired with chiefs for each rotation. Years 2 and 3 primarily take place at our community hospital partners, with few rotations at Tufts. Starting with PGY 2, you will have a continuity clinic either at Cambridge Health Alliance, MetroWest Medical Center, Neponset Health Clinic, or at Tufts Medical Center. You get continuity clinic experience when you are on your General Gynecology Rotation during your PGY 1 year and you will be able to make your own decision in regards to the location of your continuity clinic (the decision is made among your cohort).

Even though you will put in long hours, you will have time for play! Boston has a lot of history and you are encouraged to enjoy all aspects, from the public garden, to the freedom trail to the majestic theaters for shows. There are many places to shop, hike, run, eat, and drink. Because our hospital is in Chinatown, residents love Bubble Tea!
