Coping with mood disorders can be challenging, especially if these conditions haven’t responded to previous treatment. The Mood Disorders Program at Tufts Medical Center in downtown Boston is committed to meeting this challenge. We offer specialized consultations and initial evaluations for patients with mood disorders, particularly depression and bipolar disorder.
Based on your evaluation, we may recommend ongoing treatment with mood stabilizers or other medications. For patients willing to consider research, we also offer one-hour consultations billable through insurance, as well as access to clinical trials when appropriate.
A successful program depends on an exceptional leader. Our director, Nassir Ghaemi, MD, MPH, is an internationally recognized expert in mood disorders, particularly bipolar disorder. A professor of psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine, he has published more than a hundred scientific articles and several books on psychiatry.
Dr. Ghaemi is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and has served as chairman of the Diagnostic Guidelines Task Force of the International Society for Bipolar Disorders. As a patient of the Mood Disorders Program, you will be evaluated by Dr. Ghaemi.
Our experience in evaluating and treating bipolar disorder and depression has made the Mood Disorders Program a care destination for people in Massachusetts and around the world including Asia and Europe. If you're traveling from a different state or abroad, we offer two-hour consultations that include a detailed, written report, treatment recommendations and follow-up access to Dr. Ghaemi, so you feel confident you’re receiving exceptional and thorough care, no matter where you live.
