You rely on Tufts Medical Center for optimal healthcare, and your mental health deserves exceptional treatment and attention, too. The Department of Psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center is one of the longest-running and most diversified psychiatric services at a general hospital in Boston. Leading our department is Psychiatrist-in-Chief Paul Summergrad, MD, the Arkin Professor and Chairman of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine and a national leader in medical-psychiatric care.
Specialized Programs for ADHD, Mood Disorders and Other Psychiatric Problems
The Department contains several specialized programs, including a distinguished Mood Disorders Program, an ADHD Clinic for children and adults, and a unique Asian Psychiatry Program and extensive community based consultation, clinical and public sector services in collaboration with the Department of Mental Health.
Adults may be seen at our General Adult Psychiatry and Psychology Program, led by Vice Chair for Adult Psychiatry Edward K. Silberman, MD, while younger patients can take advantage of the services within our Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, led by John Sargent, MD, our Vice Chair for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. For adults who require more intensive evaluation and care, we also have a 20-bed inpatient psychiatric unit onsite.
We firmly believe that the best psychiatric care begins with a comprehensive medical and psychiatric evaluation guided by the best available science. That’s why our department includes physician’s and other clinicians with expertise in pharmacotherapy, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy and family and couples psychotherapy as well as the medical complications associated psychiatric illness. Depending on your individual needs, we work together with our colleagues at Tufts Medical Center, as well as your referring physician, to create a treatment plan that’s right for you.
