Interstitial lung diseases (ILD) is an umbrella term for a large group of diseases that cause inflammation and scarring in the lungs. As a result, the lungs aren’t able to take in oxygen. Sometimes referred to as lung fibrosis or interstitial pneumonia, ILD can cause severe complications if left untreated.
The Interstitial Lung Disease Program at Tufts MC provides extensive diagnostic testing and highly specialized care for patients with ILD:
At Tufts MC, we have a multidisciplinary approach for the diagnosis and treatment of ILD. Patient cases are reviewed by specialists in the departments of pulmonology, rheumatology, thoracic surgery, radiology, and pulmonary pathology. Our team is dedicated to performing the most up-to-date procedures and use a minimally invasive approach whenever possible, avoiding unnecessary surgeries.
The most common symptoms of ILD include:
If you have any of the above symptoms, you might have one of the many conditions described as interstitial lung disease.
