The Spine Center at Tufts Medical Center combines the expertise of pain management specialists, physiatrists, orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons to provide you with the full range of medical, interventional and surgical treatment options.
We approach back pain and other spinal conditions via the four below specialty tracks:
Pain Management
The Pain Management Center offers medications, injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency lesioning and other treatments focused on getting back and neck pain under control without surgery. The Pain Management Center does not prescribe narcotics. However, they are available for narcotics consultation and can work closely with your referring doctor on determining your medication plan.
Physiatry
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation treats patients who are in pain or who are experiencing restricted mobility, communication deficits or other impairments caused by a physical condition. Our physiatrists provide patients with alternatives to back surgery, such as bracing, exercise, physical therapy or medication or when appropriate, minimally invasive procedures, such as precisely guided injection therapy.
Neurosurgical Spine Surgery
While our Neurosurgery team offers non-surgical treatments like physical therapy referrals for chronic back pain, they truly specialize in minimally invasive surgical techniques for spine conditions. Their state-of-the-art operating suite has features like high-definition microscopes and ceiling-mounted screens so doctors can perform procedures from every angle. Most importantly, our neurosurgeons have the knowledge and experience to use minimally invasive technology to provide the best surgical treatment for your spine condition. Our neurosurgeons also perform the most complicated spinal operations such as tumor resection and deformity correction. For patients undergoing complex surgical procedures, our neurosurgical intensive care unit has experienced staff dedicated to helping patients recover safely and comfortably.
Orthopedic Spine Surgery
Our Orthopedic Spine Surgeon offers the full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment options for adult degenerative issues of the cervical, lumbar and thoracic spine. The Orthopedic Spine Surgery Program provides minimally-invasive surgical options for spinal trauma and deformity and a full gamut of non-surgical interventions.
