The Department of Surgery’s mission is to provide truly expert and compassionate care to every patient. Each Tufts Medical Center surgeon will devote the necessary time getting to know your patient so that the care provided is tailored to each individual’s needs and goals.
We understand that precise and timely communications with our referring physicians is a key element in the provision of superb care, and we will work diligently to keep you informed and involved. Within 24 hours of each office visit you will receive a fax detailing our diagnosis and plan. If more immediate communication is required, we will call. If the patient’s care necessitates hospitalization, we will make sure that upon discharge you receive detailed information to insure a smooth transition back to your care.
Our surgeons are nationally recognized as leaders in minimally invasive and image guided surgeries. Working in multidisciplinary teams, we develop individualized care plans to determine the most effective treatment for each patient. No matter how complex the patient, our surgeons are committed to curing, when possible, and to improving every patient’s quality of life.
Our expert care is delivered in state-of-the-art operating suites equipped for the most sophisticated surgeries. The recovery room and adjacent surgical intensive care unit (SICU) are staffed by attending physicians and surgical residents 24/7.
For urgent surgical consultation, referring physicians should contact our staff directly. During regular business hours please call 617-636-9400. At night or on weekends/holidays, please call 617-636-5114 and ask for the Surgery Consult Resident on call. We have a senior surgical resident on call 24-7, and he/she will immediately contact the appropriate attending surgeon to manage your consultation.
