PGY-1 Schedule
The PGY-1 residents complete 1 month rotations in:
The residents also have one month rotations at our teaching affiliate MelroseWakefield Hospital in Melrose, MA.
They also complete 2 month rotations in:
- Surgical intensive care
- General surgery
PGY-1 residents spend one month on night float. When rotating at Tufts Medical Center, they typically spend two weekends a month on call.
PGY-2 Schedule
Our PGY-2 residents complete 9 months on general surgery services and 3 months in the SICU at Tufts Medical Center. This year is spent primarily covering surgical consults. PGY-2 residents are typically on call every fifth night.
PGY-3 Schedule
The PGY-3 residents complete rotations at Tufts Medical Center, Tufts Medical Center and MelroseWakefield Hospital in Melrose, MA.
Tufts Medical Center:
- Transplant surgery (4 months) – Senior Resident
Tufts Medical Center:
- Pediatric surgery (4 months) – Senior Resident
MelroseWakefield Hospital:
- General surgery (4 months) – Senior Resident
PGY-3 residents are typically on call every fifth night, except at MelroseWakefield Hospital where they are on call twice a week overnight.
PGY-4 Schedule
Our PGY-4 residents complete rotations at Tufts Medical Center and Lahey Hospital Medical Center.
Tufts Medical Center:
- General surgery/trauma (4 months) – Senior Resident
- Thoracic surgery (4 months) – Senior Resident
Lahey Hospital Medical Center
PGY-5 Schedule
Our PGY-5 residents complete specialized rotations in surgical oncology, colorectal and minimally invasive/laparoscopic surgery. They are the senior residents on each service and never share responsibilities with a fellow. PGY-5 residents are typically on call every fifth night.
