Urology

Clinical Care + Services

The Department of Urology at Tufts Medical Center in downtown Boston provides a complete range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for management of both routine and complex urological disorders. We are dedicated to delivering the highest quality of personalized and compassionate patient health care for both adult and pediatric patients.

We provide the best possible care for our patients, ensuring that they are seen by the right specialists and have access to the most current medical and surgical procedures. Tufts Medical Center is a patient-centered clinical institution. We seek to explain treatment options in easy-to-understand terms, to help patients with decision-making and to motivate them to adopt preventative measures.

We also provide a number of state-of-the art techniques and technologies. For example, many of our patients now benefit from the innovative and sophisticated da Vinci® surgical system. The da Vinci System is a state-of-the-art robotic platform that greatly enhances classic laparoscopy and provides an alternative to an open surgery. The da Vinci enables our surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision. Benefits to patients who receive treatment using the da Vinci include less pain, less blood loss, less scarring, shorter recovery time, faster return to daily activities and in many cases, better clinical outcomes.

We work in partnership with our patients’ primary care physicians and community-based specialists, ensuring that referrals are simple and quick. Referring physicians always hear back from us promptly, and once a referral is requested we handle all of the logistics, taking the burden off of the referring physician’s practice. One of our most important responsibilities is keeping our referring physician partners informed about every patient encounter.

We provide both inpatient and outpatient services. Our outpatient clinical facilities include a Cystoscopy Suite, an Ultrasonography Suite, a Minimally Invasive Suite and a Complete Urodynamics Laboratory.

If you wish to refer a patient to an individual specialist for outpatient consultation, please call the specific physician or service directly. To learn more about the physicians within the Tufts Medical Center Department of Urology, please visit Our Experts (link) page.

If you need assistance in making the appropriate referral, please call Gennaro A. Carpinito, MD, Urologist-in-Chief at 617-636-6317
