The Urology Cancer Center at Tufts Medical Center in downtown Boston, MA unites a multidisciplinary team of specialists providing comprehensive surgical and medical management of urologic cancers including kidney, adrenal, bladder, prostate, penile and testicular cancer.
Regular team meetings in a Tumor Board setting determine the most appropriate treatment and care options in each individual case. We make collaborative decisions and involve both the patient and his/her family in choosing the proper cancer treatment.
Following treatment, we monitor all patients to make sure the disease has not recurred or progressed and modify our treatment strategies accordingly. To make more efficient delivery of personalized care for patients suffering from high-incidence urologic cancers, our department leads several cancer-specific programs:
This program offers a variety of innovative treatment options for all stages of prostate cancer. The Prostate Cancer Program is comprised of a team of Urologists, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Pathologists, and support staff.
The team meets regularly and works closely together to provide patients with an extensive array of the most advanced treatment options, including Active Surveillance, IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, IGRT(Image Guided Radiotherapy), SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy), Radical Prostatectomy including Open and da Vinci Robot Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy, Brachytherapy (Seed Implantation) and Cryotherapy.
The Kidney Cancer Program offers state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment for patients with kidney cancer. We offer the most advanced treatment options, including minimally invasive laparoscopic nephrectomy, as well as a variety of minimally invasive kidney sparing procedures such as Laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, Cryoablation (Freezing) and Radiofrequency ablation (Burning).
The Bladder Cancer Program is made up of a team of Urologists, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Pathologists, Radiologists, Enterostomal Nurses, Dieticians and support staff. The program offers state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment for patients with bladder cancer and offers treatment options personalized for different types of bladder cancer, stage of the tumor, severity of symptoms and presence of other medical conditions. We also present patients with an opportunity to enroll in clinical trials that offer new experimental approaches or therapies particularly in patients with advanced prostate cancer.
