Weight and Wellness Center

Medical Weight Loss

Are you looking to achieve long-term weight loss through medical, nutritional and lifestyle changes? Develop the new skills needed to identify less desirable habits and replace them with healthier ones with guidance from our weight loss medicine experts, who will provide you with the tools you need to do this.

The staff at Tufts Medical Center's Weight and Wellness Center works with each patient to understand factors that have made weight loss or weight maintenance difficult in the past, and all patients are offered comprehensive, individual and/or group education and support. Our medical weight loss program encompasses four major areas:

  • Behavior and lifestyle
  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Medication management

Behavior and lifestyle

Stress management, coping skills development, exercise readiness, general problem-solving strategies and relapse prevention are all integrated into your weight loss treatment plan. These techniques and skills help patients develop a foundation of knowledge on which to base lifestyle changes and which serve as the basis for long-term weight control. The Weight and Wellness Center does not provide long-term therapy but offers the opportunity for consultation and access to behavioral providers in the community.

Our registered dietitians work individually with patients to monitor and assess food choices, identify trigger foods and situations and problem-solve ways to achieve healthier eating and weight loss goals. We will integrate your lifestyle, likes and dislikes into developing plans and strategies (like using our lifestyle journal) to promote healthier food selections. We work at increasing your nutrition knowledge, exploring available products and promoting variety of choice in low calorie diets.

Physical activity

Physical activity is a necessary component of weight loss and long-term maintenance. It is important to speak with your provider about appropriate recreational activities to maintain a healthy weight.

Where desirable, medications may be prescribed along with the behavioral and nutritional support to help with appetite control. You may discuss this option when you meet with one of our medical providers.
