Neuroanesthesia Program
The Neuroanesthesia Program at Tufts Medical Center in downtown Boston, MA, provides neuroanesthesiology care for patients undergoing brain or spine surgery. Our neuroanesthesiologists work closely with Tufts Medical Center neurologists, neurointensivists and neurophysiologic monitoring personnel before, during and after neurosurgical procedures to ensure the best quality of patient care.
In non-emergent cases, patients prepare for their brain or spine surgery by visiting the Tufts MC Center for Preoperative Assessment. During this visit, a member of the Anesthesiology Department conducts a neuroanesthesia evaluation to:
- Identify and address in advance any issues or risks that may impact your surgery or recovery
- Provide a relaxed forum in which you can ask questions or discuss concerns about your surgery
Throughout the procedure, your neuroanesthesiologist will be constantly monitoring you and making adjustments if necessary to ensure the best possible outcome. Some of the most common procedures that use neuroanesthesia services include:
- Brain tumor surgery
- Aneurysm surgery
- Arteriovenous malformation surgery
- Spine surgery (from common disc herniations to the most complex spine deformities)
- Epilepsy surgery
After your surgery, the neuroanesthesiologist will continue to monitor you throughout your immediate and longer-term recovery.
