The Metabolic Bone Diseases Clinic at Tufts Medical Center provides cutting edge care to patients with osteoporosis, hyperparathyroidism, and other conditions that weaken bones. Our doctors work with hundreds of patients every year to accurately diagnose their condition and develop a customized, long-term treatment plan to prevent complications.
Clinic Director Lisa Ceglia, MD, MS, is an assistant professor at Tufts University School of Medicine and board certified in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism and internal medicine. In addition to treating patients, she devotes time to clinical research to study the effects of nutritional therapies for improving bone and muscle health.
Our doctors use a wide range of advanced diagnostic techniques to uncover what is causing your bone and/or mineral disease. This includes a full musculoskeletal exam, a targeted metabolic laboratory work-up, and specific imaging studies.
Once the doctors know more about your condition, they will work closely with you to develop a customized treatment plan to optimize bone mass and in turn, reduce fractures and prevent complications. Our doctors often recommend cutting edge diet and lifestyle changes to effectively treat many bone and related diseases. Our doctors may also prescribe current medications, if necessary. Once a treatment plan is in place, your Tufts Medical Center doctors will continue to monitor your progress and make changes as needed.
Throughout your time in our care, the doctors of the Metabolic Bone Diseases Clinic will take the time to get to know you so that they can tailor treatment strategies to your needs and lifestyle. They are readily available and will personally respond when you call or email with questions or concerns. The conditions treated at the clinic include:
Additionally, we work closely with other Departments to provide care for patients who have complex metabolic bone disease.
