Research Focus Areas
Dr. Icli's research has been heavily focused on cardiovascular biology, specifically the role of non-coding RNAs called microRNAs, and how they regulate pathological and physiological angiogenesis. She has identified a number of novel microRNAs from the plasma samples of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and from the brown fat endothelial cells of obese mice. She elucidated the function of these microRNAs in endothelial cell biology and angiogenesis in various disease models such as myocardial infarction (MI), diabetic wound healing, and recently in obesity and metabolism.
