Clinical
Dr. Weiner’s clinical specialties are dialysis and hypertension. He has a specialty clinic at Tufts Medical Center for difficult to manage hypertension. Other clinical interests include general nephrology and chronic kidney diseases and inpatient care of individuals with kidney disease. Dr. Weiner is the Associate Medical Director of DCI Boston and treats home dialysis patients at DCI Somerville. In this role, he is working to enhance care for dialysis patients and dialysis education at Tufts Medical Center.
Dr. Weiner is the current Policy Forum Editor of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases and is the Editor-in-Chief of Kidney Medicine.
Dr. Weiner, in conjunction with Dr. Gilbert, is the editor-in-chief of the National Kidney Foundation's Primer on Kidney Diseases, 6th, 7th and 8th editions, a leading nephrology textbook.
Dr. Weiner is the Medical Director of Clinical Research for Dialysis Clinic, Inc, the leading not-for-profit provider of dialysis care in the United States.
Dr. Weiner is the Chair of American Society of Nephrology's Quality Committee, which interfaces with regulation and legislation impacting US nephrology practice for the leading nephrology society in the United States. He has been a member of four Technical Expert Panels charged with developing metrics for CMS to apply to clinical care and is the chair of the 2018 ESRD Technical Expert Panel on Physician Level Measures in Dialysis.
Dr. Weiner has been an active grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health, serving as an ad hoc participant in five KNOD Study Sections and several other NIH Study Sections. He is also a grant reviewer for the Paul Teschan Research Fund.
Dr. Weiner was the chair of the curriculum committee at Tufts University School of Medicine and is a member of the Residency Selection Committee at Tufts Medical Center. He lectures on Renal pathophysiology to students at the Friedman School of Nutrition and Tufts University School of Medicine and teaches Tufts medical students in the 2nd year Introduction to Clinical Reasoning course.
