Dr. Birkett treats a wide array of both benign and malignant colon, rectal and anal conditions. His interests include minimally invasive techniques to treat colon cancer, sphincter-saving techniques for rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, and rectal prolapse. He treats anorectal conditions including symptomatic hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas and is trained in sacral nerve stimulation for fecal incontinence. He has a special interest in both robotic surgery and advanced laparoscopy as well as advanced trans-anal surgery using the TAMIS platform.
