Overview

Principal Investigator: Miriam O'Leary, MD

We are doing a research study to test a technology called spectroscopy that uses a special light and computer to better “see” where cancer is during surgery. We want to see if it can make surgery for mouth and throat cancer more effective by letting the doctor know if there are any cancer cells left behind during surgery.

Study details

Inclusion Criteria
  • 18+ years old
  • Scheduled for surgery for mouth cancer
  • Able to voluntarily consent to research participation
Study Requirements

If you agree to participate in the study, we will shine a light on and around your mouth cancer during surgery when you are asleep, and we will take small biopsies from the tissue already coming out during surgery. This will not change your surgery, how your doctor does the operation, or any of your usual care. For this research study, there are no forms to fill out, no follow up, or anything else for you to do.
