Our major affiliation is with the Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM), of which we are the principal teaching hospital. All of our doctors at Tufts Medical Center are full-time faculty at the medical school. Trainees benefit from our close relationship with TUSM by gaining access to their plethora of resources including medical libraries, research laboratories and meeting spaces. Our trainees also participate in teaching medical and other graduate students.
We also have academic training affiliations with a number of community hospitals. Our residency and fellowship programs partner with these hospitals to give trainees experience in a localized healthcare approach and a diverse case load. These partnerships also help community hospitals because they give their patients access to care from some of the emerging leaders in the field of medicine.
Training partnerships
Lahey Hospital + Medical Center
Lahey Hospital + Medical Center is a state-of-the-art tertiary hospital with an annual surgical volume of approximately 600 cardiac cases and 300 general thoracic cases. Trainees from the Cardiothoracic Residency Program who rotate here are exposed to the practice of cardiac and thoracic surgery in the community setting, making this a valuable complementary asset to the teaching provided at Tufts Medical Center.
Lemuel Shattuck Hospital
Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a major teaching affiliate of the Tufts University School of Medicine, and is the only teaching hospital operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. It is dedicated to providing quality health care to the people of Boston without regard to social or financial status.
MetroWest Medical Center
MetroWest Medical Center is a 459-bed hospital that provides a continuum of pediatric and adult healthcare services to the 25-town MetroWest communities. There are nearly 400 physicians on staff at MetroWest, many whom are very involved in training our Residents and Fellows. Currently, Residents from our Obstetrics and Gynecology program as well as cardiology and gastroenterology fellows rotate here. In July, 2013, internal medicine residents also began rotating at MWMC.
St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center
St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center is a 454-bed tertiary care center and a major teaching and research hospital affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. It is one of the major teaching resources of Tufts University School of Medicine, providing training each year to 100 house staff, a third of the Tufts medical students, and fellows in many clinical areas.
VA Boston Healthcare System
The VA Boston Healthcare System consists of 3 campuses in Boston and the surrounding area: Jamaica Plain campus, the West Roxbury campus and the Brockton campus. The VA system was created to provide quality care to our veterans. Dermatology and CT Surgery residents rotate at VA Hospitals to get a unique perspective on providing care for this population.
