Our principal investigators and trainees have received a number of honors and awards for their leadership and accomplishments in research that advances the understanding of preterm birth and its complications, maternal obesity and fetal and neonatal genomic medicine. For decades, it’s been known that poor nutrition during pregnancy has negative impacts on maternal and child outcomes both in the short and long term. Unfortunately, due to socioeconomic and food access issues, likely secondary to structural racism in populations of color, nutrition in pregnancy is also an issue of health equity.

Dr. Elizabeth Yen, a neonatologist at Tufts Medical Center, has joined as PI. Dr. Yen’s lab conducts non-invasive salivary transcriptomic and brain magnetic imaging studies to understand the impact of the prenatal opioid exposure on the developing brain.
