Complex, high-risk surgery is stressful for patients and their families. Tufts Medical Center's cardiac surgery nurse liaisons play a vital role in helping you understand the hospitalization process and procedures, as well as easing any emotional concerns. Tufts Medical Center's nurse liaisons are available to:
- Instruct and guide you along the clinical pathway
- Respond to any medical and social concerns that may arise
- Meet with families before, during and after surgery
- Provide instructional videotapes for you and your family to review
- Conduct a pre-discharge teaching class
- Contact you after discharge to maintain continuity of care until you have visited your referring physician.
- Manage anticoagulation and bring any other medical issues to the attention of the attending staff
- Follow progress of patients who have been transferred to rehabilitation facilities
