The Department of Emergency Medicine is a fast-paced environment with more than 40,000 patients yearly. Open around the clock, our department is responsible for over 40% of all patients admitted to Tufts Medical Center. It’s here that we operate a full-service Emergency Room, Level I Adult Trauma Center, Pediatric Room, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Express Care Center to make it easier for people to get the healthcare they need.

Tufts Medical Center announced today that its Emergency Department (ED) has received Level 1 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), recognizing the highest level of excellence in care for older adults.

Melrose resident Donald Rosen didn’t notice any of the signs, but the quick actions of his family, first responders and the stroke team at MelroseWakefield Hospital helped save his life when he suffered a stroke earlier this year. Mr. Rosen, 90, was found unresponsive in his home by a family member.
